We get it, with the sheer quantity of CBD products one can choose from it can quickly become overwhelming, which is why we created this guide to help you on your CBD journey and make informed choices when it comes to trying CBD products.
Step 1 – Ailments?
For most people, their CBD journey started because they heard about the many benefits that CBD has for people (and pets). This is why the first step when choosing a CBD products is knowing and understanding what ailments you are wanting the product for. There are many benefits of CBD, such as helping to reduce & manage anxiety, pain relief and management, relaxation and help with sleep just to name a few. CBD products in general will help with all these ailments, however certain CBD products have been created with specific benefits in mind.
When you are looking at a particular CBD product, see if there are any specific ailments that product targets, and do they line up with your needs? Are you looking for help falling asleep and staying asleep? There are specific CBD tinctures for that! Do you have an area of your body that could use pain and inflammation reduction? There are specific CBD topicals that help with that too! Whatever you are looking to try CBD for, we will have some great options for you!
Step 2. Type of Product?
So you know what you are hoping to achieve with CBD, and you have found a few products that specifically help with those ailments, how do I decide what format I want to try? There are many different formats to choose from, including oils & tinctures, capsules, edibles and topicals and each will affect you in a different way, some act much faster than others to name one way. Personal preference plays a role as well, some like to start their CBD journey with something familiar like a topical cream or edible gummy while others want to try a CBD tincture because they heard about it from a friend.
Before you make your decision, think about the area of your body the CBD needs to reach. If it’s better for the CBD to enter your bloodstream, then CBD Oil is a very good starting point. If you have eczema or arthritis in your wrists, then a topical product may be better suited for you. Once you have thought about this, go with your gut for the product/format you feel will suit you best. You can always try a different format later!
Step 3. How Much CBD?
So you have narrowed you search and now you need to decide how much CBD is right for you. There are a lot of sites out there giving wildly different advice on how much CBD you should take, but the thing you need to know is there is no right or wrong amount, when it comes to CBD it is about finding out what is right for you.
The WHO (World Health Organization) has reported that in clinical research, oral doses of CBD up to 800mg a day have been tested and shown to have benefits, and the lower range of 100mg a day still has a noticeable impact. This is why we always recommend first-timers to start with a low dosage of CBD and increase it gradually. Dosages will vary based on height, weight, metabolism, ailment and strength of the CBD Product.
Keep in mind some CBD products will enter your body in more concentration than other products. One example is a CBD Gummy and a CBD Tincture, both containing the same quantity of CBD, the tincture will have a greater affect and be absorbed quicker because the delivery method gets the CBD into your bloodstream quicker and more efficiently. Tinctures are the most effective when taken sublingually (under the tongue). Eating fatty foods before taking CBD can also help maximize the absorption of CBD.
Although there is no right or wrong answer when it comes to the dosage of CBD, a good rule of thumb is to start at 25mg/day and increase as you need to.
