CBD to treat arthritis

CBD For Arthritis

Many people now use CBD oil medicinally to relieve all types of chronic types of pain and other conditions and now research suggests that CBD oil may be useful for such as arthritis. There are now promising studies that suggest that arthritis pain might be relieved with the use of cannabidiol, or CBD oil.

CBD oil for arthritis pain relief

Arthritis is now the leading cause of disability, affecting more than 54 Million people in the United States. Currently, the Arthritis Foundation acknowledges anecdotal evidence that some people using CBD for arthritic pain have reported noticeable pain relief, improved sleep and reduced anxiety.

Arthritis can be either an autoimmune condition causing inflammation of joints in the extremities, or a degenerative condition affecting cartilage and bones that causes swollen and stiff joints. There is anecdotal evidence by an increasing number of people using CBD that have reported a reduction in pain, improved sleep and lower anxiety levels.

While the use of CBD for arthritis for inflammatory pain has yet to be formally studied clinically, a 2017 study found that CBD might be a useful treatment for joint pain associated with osteoarthritis. A 2016 study found that the topical application of CBD had the potential to relieve the pain and inflammation associated with arthritis. Also, a 2014 review of research on animals concluded that CBD may be an effective treatment for osteoarthritis. Prior to that, a 2011 study found that CBD helped reduce inflammatory pain in rats.

While it hasn’t yet been proven conclusively that CBD is an effective arthritis treatment for humans, it is very promising to those suffering with arthritic conditions.

CBD oil and chronic pain

The use of CBD interacts and may block certain receptors that allow for increased levels of anandamide interacting with receptors, possibly helping reduce inflammation and pain in the body. A 2020 review reports that CBD could have benefits for both relieving condition specific chronic pain, reducing pain and  improving sleep.

More research is needed to study the risks and other potentialities such as interactions with pharmaceuticals. It’s important to understand that currently the FDA does not regulate CBD in the same manner that other controlled substances are, so it is worth investigating the most up to date information available. Some individuals have reported mild side-effects such as fatigue, diarrhea and changes in appetite and weight.

Individuals looking for pain relief should always speak to their health care professional, especially when combining other prescriptions for arthritis before trying any CBD product.

Using CBD oil for chronic conditions such as arthritis related pain issues shows promise. But, if it affects receptors in the brain and acts on the immune system in the way that researchers believe, it may be a novel way to control the chronic pain of arthritis sufferers.

While there is more study needed for using CBD oil is currently limited, mostly anecdotal evidence, the benefits of additional studies of the benefits on humans shows promise for the effective treatment for arthritis pain.
